Approach to Web-Based Training
There are a number of ways in which W/CBT can be presented to the student;
each has its own advantages and disadvantages, as will be discussed
Instructor-led CBT
in Classroom
This is the most traditional "teaching" arrangement.
The instructor leads the class through the course material (usually
in a terse "bullet-point" format more suitable for large-screen
display) at a pace dictated by the instructor him/herself.
- Pro: Low equipment costs, as students do
not require individual computers or other hardware
- Pro: Instructor's expertise is immediately
available to students
- Con: Instructor sets the pace of learning,
not the students
- Con: Students cannot make use of the interactive
elements in the training material - they can only observe as the
instructor demonstrates.
- Con: Information displayed "overhead"
in this manner must be heavily condensed, and elaborated on by
the instructor during the class.
- Con: Comparatively high operating costs for
classroom facilities
- Con: All participants must be present at
the same time to benefit from the available instruction
