Future SME

ASTech is a Research Partner in the FutureSME project.

FutureSME is a major pan-European project involving 26 partners from Ireland, UK, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Sweden, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Supported by a €6m grant from the EU Framework 7 programme, the project will deliver a set of practical tools and methodologies which will assist European small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) to reach and maintain worldwide competitiveness. It will provide a strategic and operational framework to help companies involved in complex supply chains to optimise their business processes in terms of time, cost, quality and sustainability. Ultimately, it will deliver a model for successful small businesses in the future.

More than 50% of the partners are small companies across a range of sectors and types. The University of Strathclyde is the overall project coordinator.

While dominated by very large companies, there are many SMEs in the supply chain in the aerospace and defence industry. ASTech plans to use the findings of this project to develop tools to assist SMEs to participate more in this sector. Both manufacturing and service industries will been targeted.
